Fish Food
If you have fish at home you are always in the market for good quality fish food. Knowing which type of fish food to buy will depend on the type of fish that you have and where you keep them. Your fish may be outside in a natural pond or indoors in an aquarium.
If you are in the business of breeding fish then you will want to use appropriate fish food. Again this will depend on what species of fish you have. If you have an aquarium filled with tropical fish they will need a different type of fish food than if you are just feeding regular gold fish.
Certain types of fish food can be really expensive. It is worth your while to look into how much the fish food is going to cost you each week before buying your new fish. This can certainly add up and be a lot more expensive than you realized.
Many fish owners will feed their fish earthworms, and even though they are not part of their natural diet the fish enjoy eating them. Just be sure to rinse off your earthworms first and it may help to chop them up for smaller sized fish. Be certain not to dig up any earthworms if you have just sprayed chemicals on your lawn or put chemicals into your garden.
Most fish like to be fed at the same time each day. If you have outside fish in a pond they will get used to you coming out to feed them their fish food. You will soon see that they are ready and waiting for you at the same time each day.
Fish do like to eat and you want to take steps to avoid over feeding them. Tropical fish will only eat for about 3 minutes and then their stomachs are full. Any extra food will stay in the tank water and this can ultimately lead to the water becoming contaminated. So follow the directions on the fish food package and don't give them anymore than necessary.
If you use an aquarium and decide to buy a new fish you should watch to make sure they are eating. A new fish can feel out of place among a tank of other species and not eat. If you have various kinds of tropical fish they may not all like the same fish food. Tropical fish are known to be picky eaters and you just might have to buy several types or brands of fish food.
Having a tank full of color fish at home sounds like a wonderful idea, but looking after fish is hard work. Always do your research before deciding to set up an aquarium and find out which species of fish are happy to live together.
Ask at your pet store what they recommend to feed the fish and determine your weekly cost. If the costs are within your budget then purchase your fish aquarium and start raising your own fish at home.
